Indian Jewel

The Daniel Boone branch had an Indian Folk Dance competition on Friday night, and I figured the bright costumes and jewelry would make for a good portrait (it didn't hurt that a black back-drop was set up for the event). It took a few minutes to fully explain to mom and dad exactly what I wanted, and then to explain that it wasn't really for any particular purpose other than my own...technical growth? I gave them one of my cards if they wanted a copy of the picture, but have yet to hear from them. Oh well.

Anyways, mom was really helpful in getting her in just the pose I wanted. So I think this worked out well.

The title? Eh. I decided a 'Mysterious Ways' reference would have been too obvious.

All The World's a Stage

So here we are again. I thought I was going to take a full month off, but circumstances dictated that I begin a little sooner on this endeavor.

Oh and what is that? Portraits, of course. Vaguely inspired by a few other things (and photographers) I've come across, but more or less of my love of people who, in my mind, have interesting jobs, collections, or (in at least one case) facial hair. I have an ever-growing list of people I plan on shooting, so there's no lack of subject material. And it seems like I keep coming across more and more people, so I don't think I'll be putting a time limit on this one. I mean, it might run its course in about a year, but we'll see. I think the goal is just to check off everyone on my list. Thankfully, I have lots of connections that will make this a much easier prospect.

As for posting, expect about one a week, maybe two, depending on how easy (or not) it is to schedule shoots.

(I should note that as much as I love portraits, I don't do them very often. So another part of this project is a learning experience for me. We'll see if I get better as we go along.)

Starting us off are two performers from the Paul Mesner Puppets of Kansas City. They've been in town doing some programs for us at work, and I thought they'd be great additions. So first is Mike Horner and his friend Jack (of the beanstalk fame), and then Gabby Baculi, who must know something about Red that I don't. The show, I should add, is an adaptation of The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, and is highly hilarious.

Greetings

Watch this space for further photographic shenanigans.

(like, in the next couple days, I suspect)
